Switch

A network switch is a networking device that connects multiple devices together in a network. A network switch is considered more advanced than a hub because a switch will only send a packet to one or more devices that need to receive it, rather than broadcasting the packet every ports.

A network switch is a multi-port network bridge that processes and forwards packets at the data link layer (layer 2) of the OSI model.

Some switches also have features to incorporate routing in addition to bridging, such switches are commonly known as layer-3 or multilayer switches.

The most interesting thing about the switch is that, The first Ethernet switch was introduced by Kalpana an Indian company in 1990.

Kalpana is considered to be the inventor of Ethernet switching as the company was the first to introduce the concept of a multi-port network switch with its seven-port Ethernet Switch in 1989.

Type of Network Switch, Based on there configuration :-

UN-managed Switches
They are the most basic type of switch. We don't need to do any type of configuration it, just Plug and Play. They don't have any control options. They are easy to use and affordable as compared to other typed of switches.

Partially Managed Switches
They are having few basic management options, and are cheaper than fully managed switches.

Fully Managed Switches
These type of switches have advanced options, they can be configured, there software needs updates, most they are costly.

ENJOY! and stay Connected.
